The Geeks received our first international resume and simply had to post Dev as the “Geek of the Week”!
Currently living in India, Dev attained a BE at the University of Pune in Maharashtra, India then went to the States where he received his MS at the University of Louisville and worked on his PhD at North Carolina State University in Computer Science. He has two years of research experience in Computer Science as well as over two years of software design and development experience with C/C++, Java and SQL.
Like most IT geeks, Dev loves gadgets (or gizmos as we like to call them) as evidenced by his Gadget Blog.
Java Geek Wanted
Thanks to a major firewall installation, the Geeks ended up losing a Sunday and Monday and are just coming out from under the fog of war. Feeling a little cheeky, we decided to mix things up and post a “Geek Wanted” entry for a company we enjoy doing business with out of Chicago.
If you think you have the skillz, send us a resume and we’ll forward it to the right person. Here is the down low…

James Prosba
James is an all purpose IT and security guy with geekdom status in the networking realm. Currently he is the lead network consultant in charge of Bagram, Afghanistan’s network supporting the Department of Defense. While he has enjoyed his role in supporting the DoD and his country for the last 3 years, he is ready to come back to US soil and is looking for a networking position preferably in the Atlanta area.
“Results-driven technical and security expert, possessing expertise in the design, development and implementation of distributed networked application architecture and security. A skilled manager and gifted technician who understands the intricacies of communication between technical and business personnel, vendors and customers. Proven ability to undertake and manage all phases of network installation and administration from design and installation to maintenance, tuning and support. Possesses the self-motivation and intellect necessary to excel in fast-paced challenging environments.”
Being on base definitely has it’s challenges when trying to find a job back in the US as he needs to interview over email (15 minutes of telephone time per month makes it rather difficult to do phone interviews!). This is why the Geeks are featuring James Prosba for “Geek of the Week”.
William A. Burton
Some resumes are more interesting than others. Most have too little info on the most important aspects of work.
In all my years of working, I am proudest of one thing: the success of an honest comparison-test policy at Car Audio And Electronics. It would not have succeeded without the excellent support of product testers such as Joel Cohen, the late Peter W. Mitchell, David L. Clark, and others….. and it would have failed if I had not had the support of Bill Curtis (then president of CurtCo) and Roman Beyer (then publisher). Honesty was the best policy. The readers loved it. Even advertisers came to respect it. More readers = lower cost per thousand = more advertising. We told the truth….. and even though the magazine was not free….. honesty worked better than pussyfooting. I am proud of that. Geeks can be honest, and honesty can be powerful and profitable.

Passion for innovative competitive strategy is a common thread through-out my 20+ year career in engineering and research management. This drive has resulted in a 500% increase in targetable market size, 90% decrease in development costs, and changes in the Unix industry to open that market for new products. One of my characteristic techniques is to use industry standards processes and open source software projects to gain an unfair competitive advantage. Another characteristic technique is the creation common infrastructures that allow more products to be rolled out faster at a significantly lower cost. These approaches have allowed my companies to hobble competition, satisfy additional customer requirements with our own products and penetrate a broader set of markets.
A natural leader and manager, I have led cross-functional and cross-corporation teams of 10 to 100 participants to deliver product-lines in the e-business, e-commerce, e-medical, management and wireless software industries. I have broad experience in engineering, research, product and program management. As a startup company CEO, I have developed marketing campaigns, secured financing and closed Fortune 50 sales.
I offer your company a combination of deep technical skills, broad business acumen and effective organization management. I look forward to talking with you about your position.
“Brian leads exceptional teams to accomplish exceptional results.”

“Brian is an unusually multi-talented executive whose skills have developed and been polished through both Fortune 500 and startup experiences. He is a strong general manager with competence across engineering, marketing, product management and sales. As CEO of Intellify, a strategic partner of WebEnable, Brian’s talents were evident to me - his ability to identify new business opportunities, launch multiple efforts to pursue those opportunities and secure Fortune 500 customers.”
