Are you looking for a geek to fill a position in IT? The Chief Gizmateer from Gizmos for Geeks is available in and around the Atlanta area or for jobs requiring travel for full-time employee or contract work.

Besides creating powerpoints full of IT metrics, InfoSec proposals and budgets in the moonlight, the Gizmateer enjoys long walks to the datacenter to fix various system, network and security issues that arise. After a long days work, the Geek enjoys settling down with a laptop and a quick connection for the occasional penetration test or security audit.

His favorite animals are happy-go-lucky and pudgy penguins and foxes with fur full of fire. Currently seeking help for a mad gadget habit.

Technical Skills
Over the past ten years I have acted in lead roles for our infrastructure department as well as in customer-facing lead and SME lead roles for billable projects with various branches of the goverment. I have worked and am well versed on various UNIX systems (Linux and Solaris are my favorites), Windows (including AD infrastucture), networks (switches and routers), PBX systems (Nortel and Artisoft) and security infrastructure. I have introduced security to my last two companies including installing the first firewall and IDS boxes in both networks. My current certifications in security include CISSP, CISM, GSEC and Sun Security Administrator.

People Skills
Having been the site IT Manager, then IT Technical Director and now IT Director I have always had a team of one to seven people including outsourced talent and employees and I have managed budgets as large as $2M. My department has never gone over budget thanks to agressive negotiations with vendors and employee optimization. Our billable engineering staff once used my group as an example of what a team should be!

Proudest Accomplishment at Work
My proudest accomplishment includes convincing management that security was important and selling my vision for security. At my current company, using a security strategy called “Defense in Depth” in addition to communication and teaching the staff, we have not had a virus make it inside our corporate firewall in over four years! The knowledge that we were not infected by Blaster, Slammer, Sobig, MyDoom or Sasser simply brings a smile to my face!

Most Interesting Project for Work
I really enjoyed creating and leading a team of security SMEs for a project with the Air Force Research Lab. Our job was to get into the mind of hackers and enumerate the process and tools used to circumvent security for various types of applications and platforms.

Plus if you hire me, you might get some of the swag or reviews from Gizmos for Geeks!

About Geek 4 Sale

Posted in siteinfo by Hire Me on the June 26th, 2006

After I manage to become gainfully employeed, I plan to feature a “Geek a Week” so this Geek can help other Geeks get jobs. If all works out, I’ll feature four Geeks per month (sometimes five) with hopes of helping other Geeks gain employment. I will act as a buffer between the Geek and the Man and only forward information to the Geek and not give out any information about the Geek. I’ll then let the Geek contact whoever they want from the job offers flowing in!
